about us
live passionately // love abundantly // fight for justice
Tweed Salvos is a local expression of the international Christian movement of The Salvation Army. With its office & church facility in Banora Point NSW, it supports the South Gold Coast/Tweed Heads region. From Burleigh Heads in the north, it crosses the border to support the Northern Rivers community down to Pottsville in the south. Beyond that, we work in partnership with The Salvation Army in Lismore & Southport to demonstrate our love for God & the community we live in.

our story
The Salvation Army Tweed Heads began with a bold vision in 1991, when Lieutenants Peter and Wendy Staines were appointed to pioneer a new expression of The Salvation Army after the closure of the Murwillumbah Corps.

Through community connections and prayerful planning, the vision for a relevant, welcoming, and community-centered church took shape. With no planting team, a telemarketing campaign saw 2,100 locals express interest, leading to the first Sunday service at Tweed River High School on March 29, 1992, attended by 150 people.

Rapid growth followed — Sunday School, Life Groups, youth ministry, and leadership development flourished.
In 1993, land was purchased at Covenant Gardens Way, Banora Point, and the congregation planted a symbolic Faith Tree in 1994, trusting God for the future.
The church moved to larger offices in 1995, and in 1996, the dream expanded with a vision for a Sport and Recreation Centre — a place where the community could be supported physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

After years of faithful work, the dream became reality.
On March 11, 2000, The Salvation Army Tweed Community Church Centre opened its doors, welcoming an estimated1,000 people in a celebration that marked the beginning of an even bigger mission: helping people realise their God-given potential.

our beliefs
there are eleven foundational doctrines of The Salvation Army, these are statements of what we believe.

Doctrine #1
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

Doctrine #2
We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.

Doctrine #3
We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.

Doctrine #4
We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.

Doctrine #5
We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocence, but by their disobedience, they lost their purity and happiness and that in consequence of their fall, all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.

Doctrine #6
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has by His suffering and death made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will be saved.

Doctrine #7
We believe that repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary for salvation.

Doctrine #8
We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself

Doctrine #9
We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.

Doctrine #10
We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Doctrine #11
We believe in the immortality of the soul, the resurrection of the body, in the general judgment at the end of the world, in the eternal happiness of the righteous, and in the endless punishment of the wicked
